Why Bruce Lee

Seiko 5 Sports launched in 1968. For its 55th anniversary in 2023, Seiko released several special pieces, and one of them honours Bruce Lee, the actor and martial artist known around the world. It is sold as SRPK39 outside Japan and as SBSA239 in Japan.

What sets it apart from an ordinary collaboration is that it does not just print a name or a logo. It uses things that came from Bruce Lee himself: his artwork and the principles of the martial art he founded.

Reading the dial

• The dragon on the dial comes from a drawing Bruce Lee made during his lifetime.
• The bezel carries characters representing the spirit of Jeet Kune Do and a phrase meaning “Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation”.
• The glass case back shows the Jeet Kune Do symbol based on the yin-yang, the words Limited Edition and an individual serial number.
• A black-coated stainless steel case with gold hands and markers.

Two straps in one box

The box contains two straps. The black leather strap is designed to recall kung-fu clothing, with the dial’s dragon printed inside. The second is a yellow nylon strap with black stripes, taken from the yellow outfit everyone remembers Bruce Lee wearing. The box itself is a special design bearing Bruce Lee’s signature.

Buying pre-owned? Ask whether the yellow strap and the special box are included. They are part of the limited set, not accessories you can easily buy separately.

In Thailand it is sold with the Seiko Thailand warranty; Thai dealers sold it new at around ฿17,000. Once a numbered edition like this is gone from authorised dealers, the pre-owned market is the only way left — buy through a place that checks authenticity before you pay.
